Back in 2018, we asked what was missing from straight-owned pharmacies. It was clear - queer leadership, real outreach & activism, and competent knowledge of LGBTQ+ health.

Only a year after opening, medsEXPERT was honoured to be the first and only clinic + pharmacy to be recognized by the INSPIRE awards.

We welcome everyone and are informed by our 20 years experience serving the queer, BIPOC and HIV+ communities.

We believe everyone should have access to sex-positive services like:

  • Stigma-free STI testing.

  • LGBTQ+ friendly and knowledgeable doctors.

  • HIV awareness, testing, treatment and prevention, including PrEP & HIV doctors with free assistance navigating prescription insurance as well as compassionate access.

  • Gender affirming care and hormone therapy.

  • Free vaccines (such as COVID and Flu).

  • Mental health counselling appointments.

Pharmacist | Founder

Michael (they/them)

medsEXPERT was founded as a service by and for queer guys going back over a decade while Michael was initially working at other clinics and pharmacies in the Village. None of them were LGBTQ+ owned or run, which was a big disappointment when the need for queer-competent care couldn’t be found in Canada’s largest city. It was clear what was missing from other pharmacies in the Village - queer leadership, real outreach and competent knowledge of LGBTQ+ health.

Combining their passion for equity and Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education to create the first community pharmacy was a dream come true! medsEXPERT was born out of HIV/AIDS activism, improving access to judgement-free testing, awareness, PrEP + PEP care, harm reduction and more.

When they’re not working, teaching, or volunteering, Michael can be found raising and spoiling Kobi, our client comfort specialist.

Pharmacist | Manager

Tower (he/him)

Tower fell in love with medsEXPERT’s mission of serving the LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and HIV+ communities and joined the team as a pharmacist, and eventually a manager, at our Queer West location.

Tower completed his Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education locally at the University of Toronto, where he developed a passion for mental health, sexual health, and facilitating access to quality healthcare.

Today, his priority is to provide exceptional care, support, and advocacy to the medsEXPERT community.
