About STI Testing

Our team is here to provide the highest standard of care — without judgment or fear.

You can rest assured that getting tested is safe, quick, and easy — and your results will be delivered in a timely, confidential fashion.

Plus, free condoms are available at both medsEXPERT locations where health services are provided!

Our testing includes chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis by collecting the following samples:

  • blood

  • urine

  • rectal swabs

  • vaginal swabs

  • throat swabs

Our treatment options include free medication to treat chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

*Please note that medsEXPERT does not offer on-site testing & blood draw for HIV & STIs. All required lab work for our HIV & STI testing services can be performed at a LifeLabs or DynaCare near you. The urine, blood, and swab samples are either processed directly in the medical laboratory or sent to Public Health Ontario (PHO). Test results are expected in 3-5 business days.

FAQ’S About STI Testing

  • We recommend for anyone who is sexually active to test for STIs regularly.

Anyone can get an STI — these infections don’t discriminate by age, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

  • Heads up, STIs have incubation periods. You shouldn’t get tested immediately after having unprotected sex.

For example, the earliest window for testing for chlamydia or gonorrhea is about two to six days, while you should wait three to six weeks for syphilis.

Speak with one of our expert pharmacists or doctors to learn more about when you should get tested.

  • A blood sample is taken to screen for hepatitis, HIV, and syphilis.

Chlamydia and gonorrhea are screened via collecting a urine sample or throat & rectal swabs.

  • It depends on your sexual activity! In general, we recommend testing every 30 to 90 days for most people who are sexually active.

If you've been tested within the last 30 days but need to get tested again for any reason, speak to one of our trusted pharmacists or doctors who can help determine what tests you may need.

  • Most of your results for STIs will be available within 3-5 business days after the lab has collected your samples (including HIV testing, syphilis screening, chlamydia, and gonorrhea).

  • Sometimes there are no symptoms, but if and when they do come up, they can include:

    • Unusual discharge with an odour coming from the penis or vagina).

    • A rash, sore, or itching on or around the genitals.

    • Burning or discomfort during urination.

    • Pain in the lower abdomen.
