Is PrEP right for me?
PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. It is a once-daily pill regimen that can help you stay HIV-negative.
The decision to take PrEP largely depends on your lifestyle and your individual risk factors. If you are routinely engaging in high-risk behavior for HIV transmission such as,
having vaginal or anal sex without using a condom and you don’t know the current HIV status of one or more of your sex partners,
having a sex partner who is HIV positive and not on successful treatment and ,
using injection drugs, sharing needles or other equipment,
PrEP may be a suitable option.
PrEP is for anyone who is HIV negative to help avoid HIV infection. If your risk of HIV exposure is limited, other prevention strategies, like condom use and regular testing, may be sufficient. Making the choice to start PrEP shouldn't be done alone. It is crucial to speak with a medical expert who can evaluate your unique risk and advise you on whether PrEP is the best course of action. They can also provide guidance on managing side effects, accessing medication, and developing a plan for regular testing.
